Counseling David Zimmerman, LMHC

It is not what happens to you in life that is important, it is what you do with those experiences that makes the difference. Optimism and empowerment are the guiding principals of my work. I truly have faith that anyone can change their life if there is a willingness to face the real issues.

I have worked with a wide range of individuals, children, families and groups  for over 14 years. I have been in private practice for 6 years. The majority of my work has been in the areas of addiction, grief and loss, trauma recovery, relationships, and children's behavior in diverse settings that include the legal and education systems.

I am a strong advocate of expressive techniques which uses art, music, dance, etc., as part of the therapeutic process. I have been a music educator for over 25 years and I'm certified by Remo HealthRythms as a group drumming facilitator.

Canine Assisted Therapy
Studies show that pets, especially dogs, promote health and healing. Piedmont Place offers canine-assisted therapy for all clients on request. It is particularly beneficial for clients that have anxiety, PTSD, or struggle to communicate verbally. Because of its hands-on approach, canine therapy is also useful for children and teens that have difficulty focusing.
